Rose Window by Ford & Brooks, 1892

Rose Window

The Rose Window at St. John's Episcopal Church, 428 Main Street, Stamford CT, is over the western main entrance to the church and appears to be the oldest stained glass in the church. It was designed by the Boston firm of Ford and Brooks (Edwin M. Ford and Fredrick Brooks) who were in business from 1890 to 1905. St. John's church burned in 1891 and was rebuilt in 1892. An 1892 history of the city of Stamford mentions this window and its maker.

St. John's Church has spectacular stained glass, much of it from England, dating from 1892 to 1987. The makers include Tiffany, James Powell & Sons (Whitefriars), Kempe, Clayton & Bell, and James Wippell in addition to the Ford & Brooks above.
