Women's Bible Study
Thursdays at 10-11:45 a.m.
Gathering for coffee and conversation, the group offers prayer for the needs of each other, the church, and the world followed by a study of the Scriptures or another book on matters of faith.
Do Christians and Muslims Worship the Same God?
Beginning on Sunday, November 5 and for the Sundays, November 12, 19 and 26, Fr. Hugh will lead a discussion in the Parlor using materials from the Christian Century Magazine. The materials were written by Jon B. Levinson, who is a professor of Religious Studies at Harvard University; Lamin Sanneh, who teaches at Yale Divinity School; J. Dudley Woodberry, who teaches at the Fuller Theological Seminary; S. Wesley Ariarajah, a professor of ecumenical theology at Drew University; and Umar F. Abd-Allah, chairman and scholar in residence at the Nawawi Foundation in Chicago. Fr. Hugh says, “My own understanding of Islam isn’t what it should be and these articles and our own discussions for these four weeks should give us all a deeper understanding. I hope you will join us.”
Special Forums
Sundays at 11:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m
Periodically Special Forums are held following the major service, often including a light lunch. Special guests, staff or parishioners are invited to speak on varied topics relevant to our Christian journey. Recent topics have been Grief, Christian Caregiving, Faith in the Workplace, Making a Will, and Composers of Sacred Music.
Men's Breakfast
Second Saturdays at 8:00 - 9:00 a.m.
With the by-line "God's Men in Today's World" men of St. John's and friends gather for a hearty breakfast and discussion on topics pertinent to the faith. Breakfast preparation is shared. During Lent the group meets every Saturday for a Bible Study.
Women's Breakfast
Three Saturdays Yearly (to be announced) at 9 - 10:30 a.m.
The women of the parish enjoy gathering for a potluck breakfast, welcoming a guest speaker and musician, and spending time sharing together at the table.
